expanding beyond three chords.

Sometimes when I am playing the guitar, I accidently play something wrong, and it is totally right. Then I want to tell someone else what I've discovered, but I don't know its name.

I could call it the Bizarro Lobster Claw chord, or the Angry Weasel Paw chord, but (1) that's a lot to say when you're yelling chords across a room, and (2) that's a lot to write down. Especially when there are quick changes.

So I tried to find a site that would take a guitar chord shape and tell me what chord I had. I found lots and lots of sites that had lists of guitar chords. Unfortunately, I would have to search and search to find the matching chord, if it was listed at all. But I couldn't find anything that would take a shape and tell me the name.

So I brushed up on music theory and chord formation, and wrote a widget that would take a chord shape and return a chord name. Or chord names, even.

Now musical fame and fortune is assured!
