these things and others

#1

[These are FAQ.]

In my imagination, there is someone who wants these questions answered.c

1. What is these things and others?

these things and others is a companion to the adequately successful growlers question log. Most of the writing that I do for the question log is long and detailed, and, as a result, only gets done at rates that hover between 1 post per week (and by week, I mean month) and 1 post per month (and by month, I mean year). It is also somewhat constrained by the question-answer format. So I have created this companion log as a place where I can post more frequently and randomly.

2. Why the title?

It seemed like a good summary of the intended topic range of this log.

3. Who writes for this log?

Karl Bailey is a cognitive psychologist. He plays the guitar, analyzes the weather, speaks fluent English, and wears sandals to class, none of which qualifies him to do anything in particular.

4. How do you make the boxes overlap?

For those people who care (and I realize that such people are few and far between), I eschewed tables for formatting and opted instead for a cascading style sheet. This allowed me to completely ignore the problem of formatting for 4.x browsers, returning an unformatted page to them instead. In some circles, this use of CSS would gain me some sort of street cred (minus the street), I suppose. Do hardware stores take street cred?

5. What software do you use?

Everything on growlers, including these things and others is hand coded from scratch in PHP. I sometimes use a mySQL database to store data. Sometimes I don't.

6. What is that thing in the upper left hand corner?

An emergency strobe light beacon, among other things.

No formatting? Your browser could not handle the CSS, so I saved it from itself. You still get your content, so there's that at least.
